blue plaque, removed from The Eagle pub, commemorating Watson and Crick's announcement of the discovery of DNA structure, with '+franklin' in graffito

To mark the launch of the Franklin & DNA display, Saturday 21 September will feature free talks and family activities exploring the history of women in science.

Visitors will encounter an example of “guerilla history” - a blue plaque from nearby Bene’t Street which was repeatedly graffitied to acknowledge Rosalind Franklin’s enormous contribution to our understanding of genetics - alongside Franklin’s own handwritten notes.

Whipple Talk: Scientific Women at the Whipple Museum, 11am - 12pm

Director's Talk: Franklin and DNA display, 1pm - 1.30pm

Design a Museum: build your own mini museum! 2pm - 3pm

There is also a chance to catch the Museum’s award-winning Craftswomen exhibition, exploring the hidden history of women in the scientific instrument trade, which closes this autumn.

Free- drop in.
