Drawing by John Tordoff, Cambridge Drawing Society

After-hours sketching at the Whipple Museum
Thursday 8 May, 5.30-7.30pm

Free - Donate What You Can!

Ever fancied sketching among telescopes, globes, and ancient scientific instruments? Step into Cambridge University's home for the history of science for a relaxed, creative evening.

We’ll be running Whipple Scribble sessions every 8 weeks, each with a fresh drawing theme inspired by the museum’s collections. Whether you're a seasoned artist or just curious to try something new, all abilities are welcome. It's free to join, open to all, and a great way to connect with fellow creatives in the Cambridge area.

This session’s theme: ASTRONOMY
From celestial globes and orreries to 16th-century portraits of royal astronomers, the Whipple’s Astronomy collection is packed with inspiration.

What to bring:
We’ll provide basic materials such as paper and pencils. Feel free to bring your favourite sketchbook or dry media. Please note: no paints or watercolours are allowed in the galleries for conservation reasons.

Do I need to book?
Yes, please! It helps us plan the space and materials. Tickets are free, and donations are warmly welcomed.
Your support helps us keep events like Whipple Scribble running. By donating, you’re helping us to sustain this after-hours offer, put on more public events and continue improving our visitor experience.
